Threads, the newly launched Meta’s text-based social media platform is developed by Instagram as an extension of it. With the feature to share your thoughts with your Instagram followers in the form of microblogs, Threads has already acquired a large user base. However as of now, Threads have limited profile customization options, and changing usernames on threads is one such restriction.
As you know Threads is interconnected with Instagram and acquires your information and followers using your Instagram profile, it is currently not possible to change your username on the Threads app or to keep separate usernames for two of them. The only way you can change your username on Threads is by changing your Instagram username which will be reflected on Threads upon updation. Below is the step-by-step guide to doing so using both your phone and desktop.

Change Your Username on Threads from Phone

Open the Instagram app on your phone.

Go to your
profile
dashboard by clicking on your profile icon. -
Click on your
username
. -
Now
type the username of your wish
that you want to be displayed on your Instagram and Threads profile. Upon creating your username which is available to acquire, click on theblue tick
at the top right corner. After you change your Instagram username, you can go to your Threads profile and you will see your updated username on Threads as well.
Change Your Username on Threads from Desktop

Open the Instagram website using Chrome or any other web browser on your desktop and
log in
to your Instagram profile.

From the left side menu, click on
More
and then selectSettings
.

Now in the Accounts Centre, click on
Profiles
, and then select yourInstagram profile
.

Now
type the username of your choice
and make sure the new username is available to acquire. Then click onDone
. After you change your Instagram username, the changes will also reflect on your Threads profile.
