How to free up storage space on iPhone or iPad

Share

iPhones and iPads come with inbuilt memory and you can not expand its memory which becomes very painful when your iPhone or iPad storage gets full. Sometimes you might also face the applications crashing when your storage is full. Now you know you can not buy additional memory as it does not support so here are some ways to increase your iPhone or iPad’s internal storage. These ways are tried and tested ways to clear up your iPhone storage so that your iPhone or iPad works smoothly.

Before clearing up the storage, you first need to analyze your iPhone or iPad storage usage. So to do this, just go Settings > General >iPhone storage. Once you analyze the storage then you will get an idea about how much storage you need to free up to get your phone working perfectly.

Tip: You need at least 500MB of free space for the smooth working of your iPhone or iPad.

Here are a couple of ways you can try to free up storage space on your iPhone or iPad.

1. Delete unnecessary large-size photos or videos

I know this is not a very effective way because you don’t want to delete photos but think about if you delete 100 photos of 5MB each then you are going to clear about 500MB of storage which is too much in case your storage is full. Just find large photos or videos that are unnecessary and delete them. Also, you need to delete them from a recently deleted folder.

2. Merge identical photos

You can merge identical photos into a single image to save storage space. If you’ve taken multiple similar shots, combining them helps declutter your gallery and free up your iPhone’s storage.

3. Delete burst Photos

Sometimes we take burst photos unknowingly which consumes lots of memory space in our devices. So to get rid of these burst photos and save memory, just delete these photos and take a single screenshot of that burst photo.

4. Offload apps that you don’t use very frequently

This is my favorite hack for instantly freeing up storage space. Offloading allows you to uninstall an app without completely removing it from your device. Your user data, like login information, stays intact, so when you reinstall the app, you can pick up right where you left off without needing to log in again. You just need to go to the Settings > General >iPhone storage and select the app that you want to offload.

Tip: You can also enable the “Automatically Offload Apps” setting to free up storage space automatically whenever your device runs low on storage.

5. Delete offline documents, videos, or music from the App

You must have downloaded the Netflix movies or Spotify music so that you can enjoy your free time in flight. But these offline movies, documents, and music consume lots of memory space in your device. So to remove these documents, go to the Settings > General >iPhone storage and select the app in which you have offline content. Once you find the offline videos, documents, or music, just swipe left and click on the Delete button.

6. Clear out web browser cache

Web browsers like Chrome regularly save cache data from websites you visit. This data can include user details, downloaded documents, cookies, and more. Over time, these cached files can consume a significant amount of memory, which you can free up by clearing the cache. However, keep in mind that clearing the cache will delete saved login information, so you’ll need to log in again on all websites.
